Tee
Bio
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tee “Teepop” Davis began
painting portraits at only six years old and further developed her artistic
talent as a teenager at the Art Institute of Pennsylvania. Influenced
by creative luminaries such as Rick Griffin, Andy Warhol and Keith Haring,
Tee made her way to New York City, where she lived, worked and painted
for several years before moving to Miami, Florida. There she received
a degree in graphic design from International Fine Arts College, and
also spent time working for local Brazilian artist Romero Britto.
Tee has participated in dozens of solo and group shows in New York City,
Miami, Washington, D.C. and Denver, as well as numerous charity projects
such as the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund Benefit hosted by Jaime Foxx,
the Voices for Children Foundation Benefit, the Rubell Charity Auction
and the Tropical Nights for Autism Event. She has been featured in the
Miami New Times, the Falcon Times, Juxtapoz Magazine Online and NY Arts,
among others.
Drawing on a deep love of music and pop culture, Tee has been fusing
the styles of Pop, Street and Graphic Design in her paintings and sculptures
of musicians, actors and icons for more than two decades. Her vibrantly-colored
portraits have featured legendary people from all genres and time periods:
from Debbie Harry to Tupac Shakur, from Betty Page to Jean-Michel Basquiat,
from Wonder Woman to Frida Kahlo. Constantly gathering inspiration from
music, culture and everyday life, Tee creates paintings primarily in
acrylics, but has also branched out to produce works that merge acrylics,
oil sticks and aerosols. Her paintings and designs have appeared not
only on canvas, but also on guitars, skateboards, Adirondack chairs,
clothing and even cars. In addition to personal exhibitions and special
projects, Tee is also available for commission work.
